Our determination to end animal cruelty has made us who we are today. After 70 years of changing the lives of animals, we now span geographies, cultures, backgrounds and skillsets.
We are united by our singular vision to create a humane world. And we are so excited to announce that this vision is now officially our name: Humane World for Animals.
Our world is more interconnected than ever before: The challenges in one region are tied to substantial challenges elsewhere, and we see time and again that when it comes to protecting animals, those challenges are rarely confined within national borders. An elephant shot and killed in Tanzania may have died because of weak policy in the U.S. on importing trophies from such a hunt. A chemical in a sunscreen bought in Australia may have been newly tested on hundreds of mice in a laboratory in China. The fur pom-pom on a hat sold in New York may have come from animals brutally electrocuted on a fur farm in Finland. A dogfighting operation may move from the U.S. to Latin America or South Africa to avoid detection. Many forms of animal cruelty remain deeply entrenched. But we do not and will not stop our efforts when animal cruelty travels across borders.
We’ve already achieved wins for so many different kinds of animals, including farmed animals suffering in crates and cages; wild animals raised on dismal fur farms, targeted by trophy hunters or kept in cages for entertainment; and companion animals languishing in puppy mills or suffering in testing laboratories. Our new logos reflect our dedication to changing the lives of all animals, from those of the sky to the land to the sea.
We created a short video that brings Humane World for Animals’ mission to life.
Together, we tackle the root causes of animal cruelty to create permanent change. And when we say “together” we mean a force of millions of supporters and advocates in over 50 countries. And with offices in Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Liberia, Mexico, South Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States, the European Union and Southeast Asia, we’re on the ground in dozens of nations, transforming how animals are treated.
Our public policy work in the United States has always been defined by the actions it takes for animals. Retaining its special place in our organizational structure, our 501(c)(4) affiliate, Humane Society Legislative Fund, will now be called Humane World Action Fund. Humane World Action Fund will continue to advance our mission by ensuring the passage of animal protection laws, educating the public about animal protection issues, and supporting humane candidates for office.
We are building a stronger movement, one in which everyone who cares for animals has a place. It is a movement of millions across the globe who believe that the world will be better when animals are given the compassion and kindness they deserve.
We have achieved transformative change for animals. And we’re just getting started. Please join us—and support us—on this journey to a humane world.
