Our sanctuaries offer a lifelong home to animals in need. Some were saved from research laboratories, law enforcement seizures or abuse cases. Others were rescued from roadside zoos or are former victims of the exotic pet trade. Still others came from public lands where their lives were in danger. Bison and cattle, horses and burros, antelope and apes, bears and tigers: All are now safe with us.
Meet some of the resilient animals who call our sanctuaries home.

A better life in Liberia
Second Chance Chimpanzee Refuge Liberia took over the care of over 60 chimpanzees who were abandoned on six different islands in the Marshall Mangroves in March 2015. These chimps were used in experimental research that began in 1973 and ended in 2008.
Besides the painful experiments, the chimps suffered the pain of poor care during the 14-year Liberian Civil War and the 2014-15 devastating Ebola crisis.
Thankfully, we have a dedicated team on the ground skilled and equipped to provide life-long quality care to these chimps.
