Puppy buyer complaint form

Did you buy a puppy who became sick? Did you buy a puppy you believe may have come from a puppy mill?  Use the form below to report it to us.

Unsuspecting buyers often fall in love with puppies in pet stores, having no idea they came from puppy mills and may be sick. If you have had an unpleasant experience with a breeder or the puppy you recently purchased has become seriously ill, use the form below to report it.

Please note that the HSUS is not a law firm, law enforcement or government agency. We attempt to respond to every complaint as soon as possible with tips on organizing and handling your case. In the meantime, please check to see if your state has a puppy lemon law. You may also want to review these state laws for more information about how puppy sellers are regulated in your state.

Please tell us about yourself. You may remain anonymous if you wish and we will attempt to bring details to the correct authorities, but please know that many agencies are unlikely to act on anonymous tips. In addition, we would like to be able to reach out to you with follow-up questions, even if you choose not to have your name shared with groups or agencies outside of the Humane Society of the United States.

Breeder's Info

If you visited the seller's property, please be very specific about how recently you witnessed the conditions and describe any signs of distress or illness that you may have witnessed in the animals.

Did you look at the pet seller's website before your purchase?
Did you buy the puppy over the internet?
Did the online seller require you to agree to certain terms or conditions?
Was there any opportunity to leave a review?
If so did you leave a review?
Did your review get posted: was it removed?
Did you buy your puppy at a flea market or other open air location?
Did the seller require you to sign a sales contract?
Did you buy your puppy using financing arranged by the store, such as a loan, store credit, etc.?
Did your receive any reimbursement from the seller?
Did the seller require you to sign a form stating that you would not pursue any legal claims against them in exchange for getting reimbursement?
Would you be able to provide documentation relating to this transaction?
Do you consent to being contacted by parties not affiliated with the HSUS to share your story? Your contact information will not be used for fundraising purposes.
