The Humane Society of the United States releases statement regarding Charlotte Dujardin footage

WASHINGTON—Keith Dane, senior director of equine protection for the Humane Society of the United States released the following statement regarding recently released footage of British dressage rider and Olympian Charlotte Dujardin:

We are outraged by the footage of Charlotte Dujardin repeatedly striking a horse during a coaching session with a young rider. It is imperative that no horse endures such cruelty. To protect horses, governing bodies must implement and enforce rigorous welfare standards that all participants adhere to. Instances of abuse by prominent equestrians and anyone else who is responsible for the care and welfare of horses are unacceptable.

We commend the whistleblower for their courage in bringing this issue to light. The International Federation for Equestrian Sports' swift response and investigation are a strong step in the right direction. Ensuring transparency, increased scrutiny and accountability is crucial in preventing future incidents and protecting horses.
