A leader in animal welfare

For more than 70 years, Humane World for Animals—formerly called the Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International—has been a leader of the animal protection movement, tackling the root causes of animal cruelty and suffering to drive permanent change and create a better world for all animals around the globe.

We take on cruel practices

From factory farms to puppy mills, we target the most deeply rooted animal abuses affecting the greatest number of animals around the world. Our undercover investigations, awareness campaigns and advocacy move the public, corporations and legislators to act for animals. Since 1954, we’ve helped pass thousands of local and national laws protecting animals.

We care for animals in crisis

We go where animals need us most and where few other organizations can, responding to cruelty and disaster situations around the world. Our sanctuaries give a lifelong home to animals in need, and our rehabilitation centers have helped heal thousands of animals on their way to loving homes.

We build bridges and allies

Through grants, training, partnerships and events, we help shelters; rescue organizations; veterinarians; law enforcement officers; local, state and federal governments; community leaders, and the public change animals’ lives. We’ve connected more than a million pets and their families with the resources they need. And we’ve taught thousands of professionals how to lead effective investigations, resolve human-animal conflicts with kindness, implement high-volume, high-quality spay/neuter techniques, help street animals and pets living with their families in poverty and more.
